He has significant financial and operational management experience and has been an active member of our Board of Directors for the last two years. Mitchell Caspert - SecretaryThe Caspert Family joined the ASF in 1998 and have been regular participants at ASF Biennial Conferences in Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington, Anaheim and St. Louis. In 2005 Mitchell was elected to serve on the ASF Board of Directors. As a board member he has served on several committees: Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, Chairperson; Conference Scholarship Committee; Nomination Committee; Executive Committee; and Marketing Committee, Chairperson. In 2007, Mitchell was a St. Louis conference speaker at the “Just For Dad’s Session” and was elected a Vice President of ASF. In addition, Mitchell has volunteered as the Finance Director for the Philadelphia Walk-A-Thon site for the past three years. Mitchell resides in North Caldwell, New Jersey with his wife, Shari, and their two sons, Jason (17) and Matthew (15, deletion positive). Matthew was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome at age two. Mitchell also engages in other philanthropic activities while serving various children’s charitable organizations in his home state of New Jersey such as Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey. Frank McCullough - TreasurerFrank is a corporate executive in an oil and natural gas company; currently engaged in providing natural gas related financial and engineering services to engaged clients; owns and operates a surface coal mine in West Virginia. He holds a BA, a MBA, and a MSBA. Frank has served in the U. S. Navy—LCDR, USNR-Retired. Frank is married to Kathy. They have 4 daughters—Lesley, now married; Meredith—anticipating graduate school; Kristin—Junior, University of Colorado; Kate-23 AS, attends public high school in Charleston, WV. Dan Harvey - Director, SAC ChairDan Harvey was appointed to the ASF Board of Directors in 2012 and chairs the ASF Scientific Advisory Committee. Dan has more than 20 years of experience in drug discovery research both in academia and the pharmaceutical industry. He became involved with the ASF after his son, Matthew, was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome in 1996. From 1997 to 2001, Dan was a member on the ASF Board of Directors and served as vice president from 1997 to 1999. From 1999 to 2003, he chaired the ASF Scientific Advisory Committee. Dan is the chief operating officer of Dart NeuroScience LLC, a pharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative drugs with new mechanisms of action for the treatment of learning and memory disorders. He previously held various senior management positions at other biomedical research companies including Discovery Partners International, BioFocus DPI, a Galapagos Company, and ChemVentures. Dan earned a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara and he holds a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from Yale University and was previously a member of the faculty of the University of California, San Diego. During his academic career, he was a Kent Graduate Fellow, an American Cancer Society Junior Faculty Research Fellow and an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow. Dan resides in San Diego, California with his wife, Karen, and has three children, Michelle, Jay and Matthew. |
Steven Katz - DirectorSteve Katz served as an officer or director of the ASF organization since 1997. He has served as President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer and Immediate Past-President as well as serving as a director. Steve has served on numerous Foundation committees, represents the ASF as one of two ASF representatives on the Coalition of Patient Advocacy Groups for the Rare Disease Clinical Research Network, co-chaired the ASF Biennial Conference in Philadelphia in 1998; has volunteered for countless ASF projects and has coordinated the ASF walk-a-thon in Philadelphia for four years. Susan Ravellette - DirectorSusan is an attorney who was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1995. She attended the University of San Diego School of Law, the USD Institute on International and Comparative Law in Dublin, Ireland, and the University of California, Irvine. She holds a B.A., Political Science and a B.A., Sociology. Susan currently is a Pro Se Staff Attorney for the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of California where she handles civil rights and ADA cases filed by prisoners. Prior to her career in the Federal Courts, Susan was a Senior Associate in firms specializing in civil litigation. Susan has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Angelman Syndrome Foundtation since 2005. Robert Schiller - DirectorMr. Schiller and his wife, Debby, have three sons, Jonah, Samuel and Ethan. The Schiller’s youngest son, Ethan, born April 17, 2000, was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome when he was three years old. The Schillers reside in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Schiller is the former President of Armor Holdings, a New York Stock Exchange listed company which manufactured a wide range of protective products for the United States military and for law enforcement officers worldwide. During Mr. Schiller’s tenure as President, the Company grew dramatically and was sold to BAE Systems, Inc., a large British defense contractor, in July 2007. John Sugden - DirectorJohn Sugden is a director in Standard & Poor’s Public Finance Department. He has been with S&P since 2002, covering state and local credits along the east coast. John is the lead analyst for Washington, DC and the states of Georgia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Florida, and New Jersey. In addition to rating bonds, he is a sector leader of Standard & Poor’s State Revolving Fund/Pool Sector, and serves as a member of Standard & Poor’s Water and Sewer, Special Assessment and Financial Management Assessment sector teams. John grew up in Puerto Rico and attended Georgetown University in Washington, DC. In 2002, he received his M.B.A. from NYU’s Stern School of Business with a concentration in finance and management. Prior to NYU, John worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Chicago and also worked for a non-profit organization developing housing for the homeless in Puerto Rico. Charles Williams - DirectorCharles A. Williams, M.D. is a Professor of Pediatrics and Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Florida. He is a board-certified pediatrician and clinical geneticist and has a special interest in neurogenetic disorders. He is a past recipient of the Harry and Audrey Angelman Award for Meritorious Service. The main focus of his research career has been in the study of Angelman syndrome. Since 1982 he has published many papers on the genetic and medical aspects of Angelman syndrome. He is also the head of the ASF Scientific Advisory Committee. Eileen Braun - Executive DirectorEileen Braun is a graduate of Mayo School of Health Related Sciences, Rochester, MN. Prior to her career with ASF Eileen worked at the Mayo Clinic, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Bronson Methodist Hospital (Kalamazoo, MI) and Loyola University Medical Center. She began her fundraising career with ASF in 1998 and has worked for the ASF since 2001. Eileen has been the Executive Director of the ASF since 2003. De'Itra Rucker - Family Resource SpecialistDe'Itra Rucker has worked in the social service / non-profit sector for over ten years. Prior to joining the ASF staff, she worked as a consultant, responsible for the coordination of social service resources, mental health treatment and linkage services to associated clients. De'Itra also worked within various agencies assessing their programs, goals and human resources to ensure congruence between their mission statement, organizational vision and actual services rendered. She is a graduate of DePaul University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Professional Community Counseling from Concordia University. Anna Hanson - Prospect ResearcherAnna Hanson holds a B.A. in International Studies and Political Science from the University of Minnesota Duluth and an M.S. in International Public Service Management from DePaul University.
