P.A.T.H. Demonstration
Download a registration form here!
Introduction: A Microboard is a small (micro) group of people (board) who have formed a non-profit organization around one person with a disability (focus person). P.A.T.H. (Planning Alternative Tomorrows with Hope): The PATH will visually document the dreams and desires of the focus person. The microboard will then assist the focus person to carry out his/her PATH.
Microboards believe that companionship, contribution, and community inclusion are vital to the quality of life provided to the individual. They allow
individuals with disabilities control of their life with support of friends and family. Through the principals of self-determination: FREEDOM,
AUTHORITY, SUPPORT, and RESPONSIBILITY, microboards are able to provide person centered planning and empowerment to individuals
with disabilities.
Presenters: David and Faye Wetherow have long been involved in innovative service development, training, management consultation and facilitation in the field of community living. As independent facilitators and consultants, the Wetherows conduct planning, training and design sessions for government and community agencies, schools, parent associations and self-advocacy groups. The Wetherows created the very first Microboards, and developed Prairie Housing Cooperative (inclusive cooperative housing), L'Avenir Cooperative (a family- and consumer-governed service co-op), the Open Access Resource Centre (a lending library of communications equipment), and some of Canada’s earliest supported employment, individualized funding, and personal support projects.
For many years they shared their lives with a beloved adopted daughter who lived with complex mobility and communication challenges. Amber's
courage, love and gentle spirit remain with them always. She called them to live gently and mindfully, to act with honor in perilous times, and to
always celebrate life.
