Recent advances in technology can and do help individuals with Angelman syndrome overcome communication issues. Tablet technology, specifically iPads by Apple, have many advantages over traditional voice output communication aids for non-verbal individuals.
By improving communication, individuals with AS can more successfully make his or her communication intentions known, allowing greater access to opportunities, experiences and successes within the home, educational, social and employment environments.
The Angelman Syndrome Foundation, through the help and generosity of a grant from the Foster Family Foundation, is giving away iPads to up to 100 individuals with AS to be used as a speech prosthetic device, aiding the communication ability of the individual with Angelman syndrome.
