27 hours of Crossfit for Cameron

John Mace and his son CameronIn 2018, John ‘Scotty’ Mace a former member of the Royal Australian Air Force, started a 24 Hour CrossFit Challenge in honor of son Cameron while stationed at Buckley Airforce Base in Denver, CO.  While in Colorado, working in Defense as a civilian, John began training at XS CrossFit. It was there that the idea for CrossFit for Cameron was born.  In the past two years, John and his gym have raised $13,000 for ASF.  Last year this challenge developed into a 27 hour challenge, 27 for Cameron’s birthday on September 27th.  This year there will be two parts to the challenge: 27 Hours of CrossFit, where teams come and do the challenge each hour from 5pm on October 2nd to 8pm on October 3rd or individuals around the world can participate in and donate towards a 27 minute WOD (Workout of the Day) in honor of Cameron and all individuals with Angelman syndrome.  See the full 27 hour long workout

This year, because of ASF, Cameron was able to visit and benefit from the Angelman Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado.  Like many parents of children with a rare genetic syndrome, John wanted to do something to raise awareness for Angelman syndrome and raise funds for ASF.  He wanted to push himself physically, to challenge himself and those around him as his son does on a daily basis. So why not a CrossFit Challenge!  For John, CrossFit provides a mental and physical challenge, while surrounding yourself with motivated people who only want to see you succeed. Just like Cameron provides to all who meet him.  John’s enthusiasm to give back to the ASF community is truly contagious.

Each day Cameron serves as a source of inspiration to his family and those around him.  According to John, Cameron tackles everything with a smile, even in moments of frustration he is always willing to offer a hug, a helping hand and never pass judgement on those around him.  While their life is not easy, or restful, there is so much love within this family. So please, join John and XS CrossFit on October 2-3 for the 27 Hours of CrossFit for Cameron! Grab some friends, contact your gym, help John raise money for this incredible community and for his personal goal “ to hear Cameron say Dad”.  Every dollar raised will go towards helping individuals like just Cameron.
