Counseling Services

Even though caring for an individual with AS can be rewarding, we know that it can be challenging, stressful and isolating.  Therefore, ASF is proud to offer counseling services at no charge to Angelman families in the United States

Counseling Services are available for help in areas like (but not limited to): 

  • Caregiver stress
  • Support with marital problems
  • Substance abuse issues
  • Self-esteem concerns
  • Stress management

This service is not meant to replace a traditional counseling program.

Shannon is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with experience working with individuals, families, children/adolescents and groups.

Shannon believes that every individual can benefit from counseling, and works to achieve a warm yet productive client/therapist relationship. Her therapeutic approach is non-judgmental, client-centered and strengths based. She works to form a collaborative therapeutic relationship with clients that facilitates personal growth by providing empathy, support, and feedback to empower clients and help them to set and achieve realistic goals. 

Shannon received a BA in Psychology and a MA in Education with a concentration in Community Mental Health Services from DePaul University. She has extensive training and experience in person centered techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and crisis intervention. 

Her areas of specialty include depression, trauma/abuse, bipolar disorder, crisis intervention counseling, self-esteem issues, stress management, and children/adolescent issues. She is also a certified WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Planning) facilitator.
